Jeffrey W. Greenberg

Jeffrey Wayne Greenberg (born 1951) is an American lawyer and business executive who served as chairman and CEO of Marsh & McLennan Companies.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1973 and his law degree from Georgetown University Law School in 1976. He began his career at Marsh & McLennan after graduation. Greenberg resigned as CEO of Marsh & McLennan after the firm was charged with rigging, and as part of a lucrative kick-back scheme, "stifling competition" according to New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.[1]

He is currently chairman of the private equity firm he founded, Aquiline Holdings.

Greenberg is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations[2], serves as a trustee of the Brookings Institution, and has served as a member of Brown University's corporation.

Notable family members

His father is Maurice R. "Hank" Greenberg, former chairman and CEO of AIG, and Director Emeritus and Honorary Vice Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Mr. Greenberg currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of Starr International Company Inc., Chairman and CEO of C.V. Starr & Co., Inc. (C.V. Starr) and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Starr International USA, Inc. (Starr International USA). C.V. Starr and Starr International USA are collectively known as Starr Companies. His brother is Evan G. Greenberg, president and CEO of ACE Limited.

J. W. Greenberg had a 14-year relationship with journalist Nikki Finke, getting engaged in 1974 and married in 1980. The couple divorced in 1982.[3]
